Do you type up your blog, proof and edit it, and then upload it? How many versions until you feel it’s right? What about other types of writing? Do you write it out in longhand on a yellow legal pad? Do you dictate it onto a tape to transcribe later? For those of you who write short stores, novels, etc., do you plot the whole thing out, with complete character sketches and all? Where do the seeds of your ideas come from. How do you grow that seed?
I’m just curious. I’m starting to read through my old notebooks and see if there is something worth expanding on and have been delighted by some of my old material. It’s held up pretty well, but I’m floating without a life jacket and no ideas are coming. So, I decided to try some old tricks and see what happens.
Trick One: Take a sheet of paper and write a character name, title, or some little quote, put them all in a box and pull one out every day and try to build a story or at least a character sketch.
Trick Two: Experiment with plot lines and outlines.
Well, I’m still working on that. I could make it reading, but I’ve been reading pretty regularly for the last several years, but until I retired, I just no longer had the time to write. Now that I have the time, I can’t find the subjects. Politics, one of my favorite things to rant about, especially during an election year, doesn’t interest me. This year I want Obama to stay in office, but don’t feel compelled, really, to vote. Perhaps it’s time I tuned in? I’m sure I’d find something funny in an Obama /Romney debate. I had such a passion for politics at one time. Loved to debate and push people.
I’m starting to think it’s not the MS, but the antidepressants I’m on. That’s a depressing thought.
Only thing to do is keep on keeping on, doing what I can to reclaim my art. I’ll update you all frequently, and hope you care to follow me on my journey of turning back time.
